You may remember a post I wrote recently called Taking Risks, wherein I told you I called The Moth and pitched a story. My story. Yesterday the message above arrived and when I saw who it was from, I stopped breathing.
B from The Moth emailed me to say that my pitch will be featured and you’ll be able to listen and vote here. I don’t know when it will go live, but rest assured you’ll hear from me as soon as it is to ask for your help.
My pitch is less than 60 seconds. I did it after a glass of liquid courage and with Alexandra’s words echoing in my head. It was late at night, the kids were all asleep and D wasn’t home. My heart thumped. I dialed, started recording, flubbed up a bunch, so I deleted my entry and hung up.
I started crying and felt like a failure.
Then suddenly, I thought of Robin Plemmons and I was all “balls to the wall, y’all.”
I picked up that damned phone and dialed again. I spit it out, my story. As much as I could in 60 seconds (the time allotted) and I don’t even remember what the fuck I said. But you’ll get to hear it soon. And I hope you’ll vote for me. Because I am awesome and I deserve to get up on a stage and TELL MY STORY.
I am worthy of being heard. And others need to hear what I have to say.
Stay tuned for further updates on Twitter, Facebook, and here on the blog.
In the meantime, follow The Moth on Twitter: @TheMoth, on Facebook: The Moth, and keep following me for updates.
