I made this vlog last year for my old blog (The Mother Load), but was looking for a reason to run it again this year when Renee A. Schuls-Jacobson of Lessons From Teachers and Twits contacted me and asked if I’d like to participate in Hanukkah Hoopla. I was floored and flattered, and asked her if I could use this goofy vlog. She was kind enough to agree!

What’s Hanukkah Hoopla?  It’s Renee’s brainchild! Make sure you follow our hashtag (#HanukkahHoopla) on Twitter because we’re all going to be posting great Hanukkah content – 16 different bloggers!

Because of the generosity of our sponsors, each of the 16 bloggers involved in #HanukkahHoopla will be able to provide a little gift pack to one lucky commenter! Here is what each gift package will contain:

–Mama Doni’s 2011 Parents’ Choice Award-winning CD, Shabbat Shaboom
–Mama Doni poster
–Download card for free Mama Doni songs (1 Chanukah song & 1 Passover song)
–Bag of Streit’s Hanukkah gelt

I would personally like to thank Streit’s and Doni Zasloff Thomas a.k.a. Mama Doni, the lead singer/songwriter of The Mama Doni Band, for providing each of us with the cyber swag. Their cross-promotional alliance is designed to celebrate Jewish culture with the young generation, a mission of both Mama Doni and Streit’s.

#1a00fa;">How can you win? Leave me an awesome comment. When Hanukkah is over, I will select one winner at random. Be sure to either subscribe to my blog or subscribe to comments on this page so you can find out if you are the winner — as you will need to contact me! If you would prefer to be contacted via Twitter, leave your Twitter handle in your comment and I will tweet you! Be sure to leave me your email address. Not interested in winning? You can still leave a comment! I love to read your words. Just write: “No prize necessary” in your comment.

If you are not interested in winning, let me know that, too!  If I don’t hear from you within 48 hours of announcing a winner, I will select another. Don’t make me work to find you. That will make me kvetchy. Oy.

Good morning Erin! You are such a goofball! I love it! I’m glad you had something from last year because with a NEW BABY, I’m guessing everything is a little more complicated. Or perhaps you are just better at juggling things than I am. Your video is sooo funny! I hope sixteen-jillion people come over to see it. Because watching you sway to goofy Hanukkah music as you wear your husband’s tallis and YARMULKE (“some people also call them kippot”) explain how we decorate for the holidays is just awesomely irreverent. Thanks for joining in on the #HanukkahHoopla. Off to tweet ya!

um, my video SUCKS. someone pointed out we put the candles in the wrong way. i am an idiot. aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! and 16 jillion? hardly! oh well. time for a new vlog. or a funnier one.

thanks for letting me participate, hope you will let me do so again sometime. now that baby is getting a bit older (10 weeks tomorrow!), life should hopefully get a little bit easier…

  • Galit Breen

Hee! I love you, Erin! I’m so glad that you reposted this!

Loved the blog and LOVED seeing your pretty face!

    Happy Hanukkah, girlie!

    • Erin Margolin

Thanks so much! Only didn’t you notice what a bad Jew I am? We lit the candles the wrong way. I always thought it was like the rhyme, “you light left to right.” But apparently I am stupid. Argh!

  • Leahsthoughts

Very funny video! Loved it. Happy Hanukkah!

    • Erin Margolin

Thanks so much! Hope you had a wonderful Hanukkah!

  • The JackB

    Hah, that was fun!

    • Erin Margolin

      Even if I”m a bad Jew? ;-)

      • The JackB

        Who says you are bad.

  • Deborah the Closet Monster

This is possibly the first vlog I’ve watched all the way through. (Videos tend to mean “naptime” for me, a hurdle I haven’t been able to overcome even despite 13 years of effort. Oops.) Adorable and informative. :)

    • Erin Margolin

Awwww, thank you! I can’t believe you watched the whole thing—especially since I’m such a vlog newbie/novice and my voice doesn’t match up with my lip movements. Maybe that’s part of the charm? ;-)

  • Ace1028

Oy, indeed. You know I have that star, too, right? ;)

Happy Chanukah to you and your whole family, Erin. Much love! XO

    • Erin Margolin

Thanks, Andrea! I love that we both have that same star. Great minds think alike!
      How was your Chanukah?

  • Meghan

Made sure to retweet about your video – pretty damn funny!  Also, I completely covet your bookshelves (built in?)  Best part – as in, most realistic and if I had girls I’d have to turn around to make sure it wasn’t them – was the, “Moooooooom, I’m soooo hungry” bit.

    • Erin Margolin

Thanks so much! I love my bookshelves, too. ANd yes to the kids whining about being hungry, bored, tired, etc…ugh!

  • Random Blogette

Yay! I remember this one from last year. I think that I won it too! Happy Chanukah Erin!!

    • Erin Margolin

      Random Jayme,

THanks, girlie! Maybe you’ll win again! ;-)

  • Lea

Oh Erin, you ARE a bad Jew.  You light candles from right to left.  The same way you read Hebrew.

I’m guessing nobody’s going to kick you out of the club, though.  :)

    • Erin Margolin

I blame myself for the rhyme I was taught: “You light left to right.” Oops. Thanks for correcting me. Oh my G_d, I’m mortified!

  • Julie Gardner

First, you are adorable. Second, I agree with you on the spelling. I’d be very confused if I had to choose between Christmas and Histmas. Let alone Hristtmas. And the like.
Anyway, sorry about the wrapping paper. And the difficulty involved in making latkes.
But you look great in a prayer shawl.
And I’m glad I got to see and hear you here.
    Very glad.

  • Kim

I’d love to be a part of this next year!
