A Welcome Sight—Stay With Me

The green shoots of our day lilies are pushing up from the wet, winter-weary earth.

They put the cold away, boxing it up tightly. They bring so much lightness in. My heart leaps when I see the first delicate fronds.

I feel fresh and new, too. I feel full of possibilities.

Picturing their petals about to unfurl–my yard full of their warmth– bright hues of gold, orange, and crimson.

They are pretty ladies in flouncy dresses leading the way to our front foor. They greet me with a smile, always.

Spring is coming.

I am ready. I am unfurling, too. I am holding happiness in my hands.

Finally, it is mine. You are mine. Stay. Stay with me.

Warm weather always brings something happy out in me, too! This line made me picture your girls all dressed up: They are pretty ladies in flouncy dresses … :)

      This is true! LOL!
I didn’t even think of that. Gives me an idea for a future post once these lilies bloom!

Spring is on the way! My blog post today was about crocuses coming up. I can’t remember a winter I was happier to say goodbye to than this one!

    • Anonymous

I need to go and read it! I am sooo behind w/ my reading. Sigh. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to catch up!
It does seem like this winter’s been especially long and brutal. So glad it’s coming to a close!

  • http://mytimeasmom.com Jessica

This post makes me even more excited for spring to come.

I’m SO READY for it, Jessica! Thanks for reading!

Thank you, Terri! You are a doll. How did you know I needed those hugs?

I don’t think that I could live somewhere cold. I am more of a warm weather yid. We’re desert people. Agree with the sentiment about spring being full of possibilities- it most certainly is.

    • Anonymous

Yes, I definitely have issues with the cold weather. I’m from New Orleans and have only lived in the Midwest for about 6 years now. I’m STILL getting used to it! (although I do appreciate the change of seasons, which we never really had down South)

Spring is such a wonderful time of freshness and renewal. Pretty sure that’s why it remains my favorite season… Lovely words Erin. xo

Thanks, Elaine! And maybe now you get this a little bit more than when you first read it? xoxoxoxox

  • Crayonwrangler

Loved this one! But I want to be honest with you because it sounds like you’re looking for critiques and don’t always want us to sugar coat it.

I didn’t like the last night “Finally, it is mine…Stay with me.” I didn’t really see how it fit unless there was an underlying meaning I didn’t get (which happens a lot, it’s why I don’t like poetry!).

But overall this was stunning. I felt like I was looking at the flowers, and not my dreary weather outside currently. I love where you are letting your writing take you.

    • Anonymous

I’m not sure where you got that I was looking for critiques; normally I outright ask for them, so now you know what to look for.

If you don’t like poetry, I’m also not sure why you even commented about not liking my last line. That’s just where I’m asking Spring to stay, instead of being a tease and not really arriving for good. (Winter was back with snow briefly the other day)

And now I’m completely confused because by the end of your comment? You say it’s stunning.

Anyway, I’m sorry to hear you didn’t like this, and in the future know that I’ll ask for critiques either at the beginning or end of the post.

I am so excited for spring to get here!

That makes 2 of us! (or 3?)

  • http://www.theumbels.com Evonne

I’m so glad that you’re happy!

We have flowers coming up, too. Please don’t ask what they are – I have absolutely no clue! But I can’t wait for warmer weather to find out!

    • Anonymous

I am not very good with flowers—day lilies are some of the few I know only because they’re the ones I haven’t managed to kill off yet!!!

  • http://twitter.com/sharmstro Shanon Armstrong

Delicate fronds. Petals about to unfurl. Birth. Ahh….happy shivers.
Wishing you lots of bright days ahead!

      Thank you so very much!

  • Dwmatty

Ah yes, one more sign that spring is around the corner. Smiles.

    • Anonymous

HUGE smiles from this girl. I’m so ready!

  • Christi

IT WAS WARM HERE TODAY!!!!! I hope that it was up north, as well!!!!! <3

Yes!!! and the new possibilities are so exciting. daffodils and japanese magnolia past bloom … we’re looking at 82 degrees on Friday.

Will admit that the Spring Equinox is MY official New Year’s Day. I hibernate and marinate over the winter. Plus January 1 too crowded a date in the marketplace :)

    • Anonymous

Ooooh, love the hibernation idea. That is kinda like me, too. And party time for Spring Equinox!!!

If only it could be spring every single day. Without having to move to Los Angeles.

I know, right?!?! Sheesh. California people are so lucky!

  • http://npoj.blogspot.com Nancy C

Beautifully symbolic yet literal. I so get it. My bulbs and day lillies fill me with hope and possibility.

I love you, friend. I am so happy for your joy.

    • Anonymous

Thank you, sweet Nancy! I am counting down the days until I can give you a big bear hug!

  • Anonymous

We already have the bright yellow ones blooming everywhere. They always bloom with the last snow, their yellow trumpets taunting the white snow as if to say “you will not beat me”.. I love flowers

    • Anonymous

I love flowers, too! The nicest thing about our day lilies though is that they’re so hardy. Even I can’t kill them! (I do not have a green thumb!)

  • Alexandra

Spring is always a wonderful time. No matter if it’s your 50th Spring,it’s still exciting.

    • Anonymous

      It is indeed!
And I am your true friend, too. But hopefully you know what already.

when I was reading this, I was thinking of the last line, to see you write it, vocalize it, I was just teary. You are having an amazing year, and I want that to last for you. I see the “Spring” in everything you write lately and it makes me so happy.

    • Anonymous

Oh, Kirsten! Lovely, lovely you. Always with the kindest comments that make me smile. Seeing your face here, reading your sweet words? Always makes me happy!

And thank you for stopping by to read, Amanda! Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend!

Nothing better than the hopes that Spring can bring. Well, maybe the fire of mid Fall, say around Halloween. That’s superb as well. My heart is bursting for you!

    • Anonymous

Dude! How did you know Halloween is my favorite holiday?!?!?! Maybe this year I can dress up as a basketball? Hmmmm……

  • Leighann

    Beautiful spring.
    Beautiful you! Yippee

I get this. I struggle with depression and anxiety and I’m in a terrible funk right now. The last few days the sun has been out and it has been warm enough to venture outside. Just seeing the earth come to life gives me a sense of hope…and smiles. Hang on to them.

    • Anonymous

Thank you so much for sharing that with me here. I harbor that same sense of hope you do. I’m ready to ditch this funk, I’m so tired of feeling frumpy!
